The first quote is from President Thomas S. Monson, I call it his "doubting Thomas" thought. Not because he is doubting, but because of the disciple in the New Testament named Thomas that doubted & the quote begins with the phrase, "If you should have doubting thoughts …"
The next quote, from Elder Dallin H. Oaks,
"Man unquestionably has impressive powers... But after all our obedience and good works, we cannot be saved from the effects of our sins without the grace extended by the atonement of Jesus Christ... Man cannot earn his own salvation."follows President Monson's thought.
