Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.

Supposing Today

Today the chaplain for Access Hospice came to see Mother. He read a couple of poems to her & she remembered Daddy's favorite poem, Supposing Today. I Googled it & found this:
Supposing today were your last day on earth,
The last mile of the journey you’ve trod;
After all of your struggles, how much are you worth,
How much can you take home to God?
Don’t count as possessions your silver and gold,
Tomorrow you leave these behind,
And all that is yours to have and to hold
Is the service you’ve given mankind.
(Anonymous, as quoted by David O. McKay, Treasures of Life [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1962], pp. 395–96.)
Little did I know when Daddy quoted it so often that President David O. McKay had once used it.

Marriage not a ritual

I wanted to have Don-Mike & Amber's guest book either finished or well on it's way to being finished, but it's not going to happen. However, I saw this quote in Puzzled Hearts (Facebook game) & think it will go well with this picture.
Marriage is not a ritual or an end. It is a long, intricate, intimate dance together and nothing matters more than your own sense of balance and your choice of partner.
~ Amy Bloom ~
Don-Mike & Amber dancing at their wedding reception, Saturday, May 5, 2012.
 Now I'm not sure. I thought there was another picture of them dancing. Don-Mike looks tired in this one.

Trust in God

Lots of food for thought on Facebook lately.
The tragedy of life
is not death
but what we let
die inside of us
while we live
~ Norman Cousins

I love this, not only the thought, but the photo.

Tonight when I was rubbing Mother's legs I noticed lots of little red spots on her legs. I had never seen them before & I wondered if it was something to worry about. Luckily, Amber, Don-Mike's fiancée, is a CNA & has worked in nursing homes & was here. She came in & looked at Mother's legs & then said she has seen them before, but they are nothing to worry about. She gets them on her legs & they are caused by stress. I know Mother has really been worrying about attending the temple tomorrow night with Don-Mike & Amber. I tried to quote this to her, but couldn't remember anything more than, "Worry is the outward sign of fear." I pray for peace many times.

Friends

I have some wonderful friends, sure wish they were closer though. I have always remembered the first few lines from this poem,
Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.
New-made friendships, like new wine,
Age will mellow and refine.
Friendships that have stood the test--
Time and change--are surely best;
Brow may wrinkle, hair grow gray;
Friendship never knows decay.
For 'mid old friends, tried and true,
Once more we our youth renew.

Joseph Parry
But was a little surprised when I read this. I always thought the old friends were gold, maybe I'm reading this wrong.

March

It's March already. I can't believe the year is already almost a third of the way gone. Here's a great quote:
"It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold. When it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade."
~ Charles Dickens

Total humiliation

Today on Martha Speaks, a program on PBS, Don-Mike heard this quote,
You can't let a little thing like total humiliation stand between you and having a good time.
and liked it so well, he ran to get a piece of printer paper & wrote it down. I would have liked to have seen the whole episode, or at least the lesson they were trying to teach.

Spread love

I cannot believe I have not shared a Mother Teresa quote. I LOVE Mother Teresa.
Spread love everywhere you go: first of all in your own house. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next door neighbor... Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting.
